Ali Abdelkarim

Consultant

Mr. Abdelkarim is a seasoned expert in agricultural science, operations research, and management, with a distinguished career spanning several decades. He holds a B.Sc. in Agricultural Science from the University of Khartoum (1977), an M.Sc. in Operations Research from Polytechnic University, New York, USA (1986), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies from Trinity College Dublin (1998). 

Mr. Abdelkarim has led numerous impactful assignments, specializing in baseline surveys, vulnerability assessments, and livelihood programs, particularly in conflict-affected regions of Sudan. His key assignments include: 

  • Comprehensive baseline survey and vulnerability ranking for sustainable livelihoods of IDPs and host communities in Eastern Sudan. 
  • Data analysis and reporting on the impact of livelihood programs. 
  • Baseline studies for children affected by conflict in North and South Kordofan. 
  • Baseline survey for an animal husbandry project for Plan International Sudan in White Nile State. 
  • Baseline survey in Um Baro locality, North Darfur, to improve food security for vulnerable populations in conflict zones. 
  • Design and implementation of baseline assessments for the Seeds Project in North and South Kordofan, funded by IFAD and the Government of Sudan. 
  • Survey to assess the impact of the Gash Livelihoods Regeneration Project on women’s literacy and livelihoods. 
  • Needs assessment for peace and social cohesion projects in Azom locality, Darfur. 
  • Assessment of refugees and asylum-seeker populations in Khartoum State, focusing on livelihood, legal, health, and educational needs for UNHCR. 
  • Baseline survey for the Rain-fed Small Farmers Livelihoods Improvement Project in Sinnar State. 
  • Design and implementation of food security and livelihoods surveys for IDPs in Kassala and Telkook locality. 
  • Development of household questionnaires and community surveys for agro-pastoralist livelihood improvement in Um Jawasir. 
  • Supervision of field data collection for the Community Development Fund in South Kordofan, North Kordofan, Blue Nile, and Kassala states. 
  • Data collection and reporting on drug use causes and impacts on street children for Sabah Association for Child Care and Rehabilitation.

Abdelkarim’s expertise in survey design, data collection, and analysis has played a crucial role in improving livelihoods and supporting development programs across Sudan, particularly in challenging and underserved regions.
